51 Islington

Previously the home of a local furniture store, this site marks the start of what is slowly becoming the next area of in-town redevelopment. Islington Street once resembled a proud boulevard where mature trees lined the street, framing stately Victorian homes. Geographically, it has remained a prominent gateway to the downtown. The City has developed a master plan that will restore much of that historic integrity by increasing the pedestrian experience with safer intersections, street crossings and vegetation. Our project evolved over several design generations to include a series of separate structures to include the separate townhouse style-building sketch that appears in the slideshow above.

The final project is a single building, which was designed to be built in two phases due to the temperamental market during the designs conception. This created some unique design challenges, but resulted in a building that could be completed in pieces as the condominium sales market increased.
